About Me
My name's Justin. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
I am an award-winning photographer, a videographer and a journalist.
I am a graduate of Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communication with a Bachelor of Journalism and a minor in sociology.
At Carleton I was recognized with several awards and scholarships including the 2017 Mitch Jacobson Memorial Award in Photojournalism, the 2016 Dean’s Honour List and the 2016 Gordon Robertson Scholarship
This passion for seeking out untold stories and capturing them in photographs began during my time living and travelling in the Middle East.
In high school, I was given the opportunity to start sharing the stories I discovered by producing live TV morning announcements on a daily basis. The excitement of live TV production drew me in deeper and deeper. I was hooked.
During my graduating year in high school, I branched out into the realm of professional broadcasting, spending many hours working on productions for Rogers TV, in various production roles.
After high school graduation, I began studying the comprehensive art of journalism at Carleton, further developing and fuelling my passion.
In J-School, I began freelancing in the broadcast and audio-visual fields, further developing my strong technological instincts.
In 2016, I completed an internship at the Ottawa Citizen where I worked as both a reporter and a freelance photographer. In 2017, I completed an internship at the National Post in Toronto where I pitched and wrote several stories while working on their web desk.
After I returned from my internship in Toronto, I took over as photo editor for Carleton's campus paper, The Charlatan.
After graduating from Carleton I moved to Winnipeg, MB to work as a full time photojournalist at the Winnipeg Free Press as their 2017 Jon Thordarson Free Press Photojournalism intern.
Most recently, I was based in Victoria, B.C. working as a reporter/photographer with Black Press Media. While in B.C., my work was recognized with two Ma Murray Community News Media Awards. Prior to this, I spent time in New Brunswick working both as a freelancer, and a reporter/photographer with Brunswick News. My work in New Brunswick was recognized with two Atlantic Journalism Awards.
I am proud to have also contributed to the Winnipeg Free Press, the National Post, the Financial Post, the Ottawa Citizen, Rogers TV, City TV, Sky Sports, PSAV, Advanced Conference Technologies, The Pillar Society, Ottawa Real Estate Investors Organization, The Charlatan and Centretown News.
